斯坦福大学声明：贺建奎基因编辑婴儿的锅，我们不背！

4月16日，斯坦福大学发表公开声明，宣告斯坦福 大学教授没有参与南科大贺建奎的基因编辑婴儿项目，与该项目也没有科研、经费、以及组织上的任何关联。也就是说，斯坦福教授在贺建奎基因编辑婴儿风波中，完全是清白的。

据纽约时报报道，这份声明，是斯坦福大学对此前南科大校长陈十一院士致信斯坦福大学校长的公开回应。在这封信件中，陈校长指出贺建奎博士后导师、斯坦福大学Stephen Quake教授在贺建奎基因编辑婴儿项目中起重要的指导和推动作用，包括实验准备、论文发表、舆论宣传、和公关策略等：

“Prof. Stephen Quake provided instructions to the preparation and implementation of the experiment, the publication of papers, the promotion and news release, and the strategies to react after the news release,” 

陈校长进一步指出，Quake教授的这些行为，违反国际公认的学术伦理、必须予以谴责：

 “violated the internationally recognized academic ethics and codes of conduct, and must be condemned.”

去年十一月，贺建奎宣布世界首例基因编辑婴儿在中国诞生，掀起轩然大波。今年一月，新华社发布广东省“基因编辑婴儿事件”调查组结论：

“现已初步查明，该事件系南方科技大学副教授贺建奎为追逐个人名利，自筹资金，蓄意逃避监管，私自组织有关人员，实施国家明令禁止的以生殖为目的的人类胚胎基因编辑活动。”

调查组特别指出，境外人员参与了这一项目：

“2016年6月开始，贺建奎私自组织包括境外人员参加的项目团队，蓄意逃避监管，使用安全性、有效性不确切的技术，实施国家明令禁止的以生殖为目的的人类胚胎基因编辑活动。”

由于贺建奎曾在斯坦福大学从事博士后研究，并一直与其导师Quake教授保持联系，很多人自然将境外人员联想到Quake教授身上。这个公开声明表明，斯坦福大学认为他们的教职员工不在这些境外人员之列。这个锅他们不背。

在斯坦福公开声明发表前，纽约时报曾专访Quake教授并做专题报道，阐述Quake 教授立场。这一立场在斯坦福声明之中再次体现：即Quake教授最初对贺建奎基因编辑婴儿项目表示反对与关切，在贺建奎不听劝阻执意推进项目的时候要求他遵循科学伦理和规范，并得到贺建奎保证这一项目通过了伦理监管部门的审批：

“The review found that the Stanford researchers expressed serious concerns to Dr. He about his work. When Dr. He did not heed their recommendations and proceeded, Stanford researchers urged him to follow proper scientific practices, which included identifying an unmet medical need, securing informed consent, obtaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and publishing the research in a peer-reviewed journal. Finally, the reviewers found that Stanford researchers were told by Dr. He that he had secured IRB approvals for his work.”

在接受采访的时候，Quake教授向纽约时报公开了他和贺建奎这几年的电子邮件来往，显示在基因编辑婴儿项目的每一个重要时间点，贺建奎都向Quake教授通报，如成功怀孕、婴儿出生等等：

据了解，斯坦福调查小组由两人组成，一人为斯坦福大学教授，一人为校外调查人员。调查结果显示：

“Based on all of the available information, the reviewers found that the Stanford researchers were not participants in Dr. He’s research regarding genome editing of human embryos for intended implantation and birth and that they had no research, financial or organizational ties to this research. ”

据报道，南科大已经与贺建奎解除合同。

科研千万条，规范第一条。学生不听话，老师两行泪。。。
